Summary

We are recruiting for a Claims Manager.  This position is responsible for developing, maintaining, and managing the company’s workers’ compensation program.  It also stablishes standards and procedures for all matters relating to workers’ compensation.     Travel required:  5%. Position will be onsite in Salisbury, MD.

 

 

The salary range for this position is $84,000 - $126,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications with annual bonus available (variable depending on performance).

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Manages Third Party Administrator (TPA) performance, controls claim costs and manages adjustment expenses. Organizes and directs the cost-effective resolution of casualty claims.  Coordinates accounting and financial management of casualty claims.  Evaluates and authorizes defense/settlement of disputed claims.  Directly controls adjustment of high-value claims.

2. Manages claim investigations, settlements and litigation.  Manages legal affairs arising out of casualty claim activity.  Assists Corporate legal with responses to insurance carriers for Directors & Officers (D&O)/EPLI (Employer Practices Liability Insurance) and miscellaneous class action claims.  Arranges appropriate legal representation, controls legal expenses and maintains current laws and regulations affective exposures; assures compliance with statutory reporting obligations.  Reviews reservation of rights issued by carriers and coordinates responses

3.  Manages all property losses. Provides timely reporting of property losses to insurer; coordinates adjusters’ activities with Operations; provides consultation with accounting on loss elements.  Works with Operations and adjusters to effect maximum recovery or allocation to aggregate deductible.  Pushes for closure on all open claims; closure of claims within 3 -6 months of completion of repairs and accounting documentation (depending on severity of claims).

4.  Works with Safety and Operations on loss control planning including auto, workers’ compensation and property.  Assists safety department as needed on accident investigation, Occupational and Fleet policy changes and business continuity planning.

5.  Monitors banking arrangements with TPA and front companies.  Analyzes and reports on loss reserves.  Reviews and approves all claim payments.  Provides information to General Ledger for proper accounting and allocation of claims transactions.

6. Maintains accurate claims history and database.  Prepares and distributes high-value and product liability claim reports.  Analyzes claim trends and development.  

7. Projects and assignments may change as a result of leaderships needs and requirements.

Minimum Education and Experience Required.

REQUIRED:   Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field plus 6 -7 years related experience:

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate in a professional manner when dealing with Third Party Administrators and Company contacts. 
  • Knowledge of Employer Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) and various risk management systems.  

 

PREFERRED:  

  • Experience with contract language to ensure there is adequate limits and indemnification.
  • Experience reviewing certificates against contracts to ensure compliance with requested limits.                                                                                              

 

 

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  1. Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings.
  2. May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
  3. May need to access files, supplies and equipment.
  4. Work activity is in an office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment.
