Summary

The purpose of a Breeder House Person is to care for the hen turkeys, gather eggs and maintain the hen turkey .

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Travel continuously during shift throughout the hen turkey house on a litter and gravel surface in order to gather eggs, care for the hen turkeys, and maintain the hen house. 
  • Push turkeys weighing up to 35 pounds off their nests in order to gather eggs.
  • Lift items such as litter; feed; and egg baskets weighing up to 80 pounds.
  • Move about the turkey hen house to check feeders; clean drinkers; spread litter and other duties necessary to care for the hen turkeys.

Minimum Education

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. 

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  • In stationary positions or moving for up to 12 hours on a wet, moist, dry, greasy, smooth, rough, and uneven floors which includes concrete or litter surfaces with up to two (2) to four (4) hours in a single interval. 
  • Ability to work from various ladders. 
  • Exposure to and work in temperatures of<0 to >100 degrees Fahrenheit with ambient humidity, or dry exposure, noise exposure of <90 db, and light intensity range of <50 to >100 foot candles. 
  • Bending, twisting, lifting, reaching, sitting, and grasping varies in repetitions, distance, degrees, angle, weight, height, longest interval of time, objects grasped, and body positions depends upon the task being performed. 
  • Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions. 
  • Exposure to chlorinated water <50 ppm, ammonia vapors >5 ppm, lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, salt and other chemicals found in a poultry breeder operation. 
  • Must wear and/or use protective and safety equipment required for the job.
