Summary
The Maintenance Superintendent directly supervises maintenance staff for a specific shift. The shift is Wednesday through Saturday 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM. This position will plan, direct, and monitor maintenance activities during their shift and has accountability for ensuring that the plant facilities, equipment, and facility infrastructure are maintained and operated in an efficient, safe, and reliable manner. The Maintenance Superintendent ensures department goals are met by providing direction, guidance, and development opportunities for all Maintenance employees.
Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists in the planning, organizing and directing in the development of the maintenance work plan; assigns methods and procedures.
- Assists in recommending maintenance and operating procedures for new facilities prior to and during contraction.
- Develops new layout designs for use in installing new equipment/processes, as well as, changes to existing. Prepares estimates of needed equipment, materials, supplies and labor.
- Supervises the repair of all type of building, mechanical and structural problems.
- Reviews completed work orders; assists in establishing work policies, maintenance and repair standards.
- Develops, maintains and updates as necessary a preventive maintenance program using the technology provided by the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) system in order to increase the reliability of the equipment and minimize production line downtime related to equipment failure.
- Identifies chronic maintenance problem areas and recommends courses of action necessary to repair, modify or replace equipment by utilizing machine downtime and machine history data as available from the CMMS system in order to increase machine efficiencies and reduce costs.
- Ensures that the activities of the Maintenance Department adhere to USDA regulations and plant quality control standards by keeping the Maintenance Supervisors and mechanics informed of the proper procedures and monitoring their compliance in order to maximize the Company's ability to provide high quality products.
Minimum Education
- High School Graduate or GED required
- BS Degree or comparable technical training within the mechanical and electrical crafts preferred
Experience Requirements
- 5 - 7 years of mechanical or electrical maintenance or equivalent experience
- 5-7 years in Maintenance Leadership positions.
- Experience in maintenance or other technical fields.
- Experience in food manufacturing preferred.
- Understanding of corrective, preventative, and predictive maintenance
- Understanding of standard and maintenance software applications
- Strong supervisory and interpersonal skills
- Strong communication, math, organizational and analytical skills
- Industrial Electrical Controls experience preferred
- Understanding of manufacturing technologies
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
- Ability to work for 8 hours or more in a stationary position or travel on a wet, moist, dry, greasy floors which may include metal or plastic grating surfaces with up to 4 hours in a single interval.
- Ability to work from various types of ladders and/or stairs.
- Exposure to and work in temperatures of less than -40 degrees and 75 degrees with ambient humidity. Noise exposure of 110 db, and light intensity range of 50 to 100 foot candles.
- Bending, twisting, lifting up to 50 lbs, reaching, sitting, and grasping varies in repetitions, distance, degrees, angle, weight, heights, longest interval of time, objects grasped, and body positions depending upon the maintenance task required. Exposure to chlorinated water (50 ppm, ammonia vapors ) 5 ppm, dry ice, caustic detergents, lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, and other chemicals found in a poultry processing plant.
- Must use and / or wear protective and safety equipment required for the job.
