Summary

Diagnoses equipment failures and service and makes repairs to the Company's fleet and equipment in compliance with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications and DOT US Dept. of Transportation) safety regulations and requirements.

This position spends 20% of a normal workweek supervising other associates.  

This position spends 10% of a normal workweek training and developing other associates.  

This position spends 70% of a normal workweek in production or maintenance related activities.  

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Garage Mechanic Lead

Diagnoses company's fleet and equipment failures and makes repairs in compliance with OEM specifications and DOT safety regulations and requirements. Operates equipment to verify proper operation; identifies problem and cause of failure through logical troubleshooting steps and determine corrective action through the inspections of failed parts. Utilizes shop computer for the diagnosis of equipment and any OEM supplier as needed. Disposes of failed parts, fluids and other waste in an environmentally conscious manner. Ensures work orders are properly completed and work repair task description is accurate to work completed. Removes, cleans, repairs, re-installs and adjusts vehicle components proficiently. Higher level Fleet Techs gain increased knowledge of different vehicle components. Routinely performs preventive maintenance and tire maintenance. Performs road calls and emergency services as necessary. Performs daily safety inspections and minimal reworks while maintaining production standards. Trains and leads other fleet techs in completing repair assignments.

FLEET TECH LEAD

Diagnoses failures and makes repairs on cooling systems.

Diagnoses failures and makes repairs on intake systems.

Diagnose failures and makes repairs on exhaust systems.

Diagnose failures and makes repairs on lubrication systems.

Diagnoses failures and makes repairs on electrical systems.

Diagnose failures and makes repairs on brake (air & hydraulic) systems.

Diagnoses failures and makes repairs on suspension (air & spring) systems.

Diagnose failures and makes repairs on front end & alignment systems.

Diagnose failures and makes repairs wheels, rims, hubs and tires.

Diagnose failures and makes repairs power train components (engine, clutch, transmission, drive line, and differentials)

Performs oxygen and acetylene welding repairs.

Performs cab, body and frame repairs.

Diagnoses failures and makes repairs on air conditioning systems.

Diagnoses failures and makes repairs on refrigeration systems.

Diagnoses failures and makes repairs on hydraulic systems.

Performs preventative maintenance as required.

Provides training to mechanics at lower levels as directed by supervisor.

Perform other tasks as assigned.

 

Minimum Education

High School or equivalent.  ASE certifications a plus.  

Experience Requirements

6-10 years with prior supervisory experience. Requires a minimum of one ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) and OEM (Original Equipment Manufactorer) re-certification is required.  New associates must earn one ASE certifications within their first six months of employment and must earn the remaining one certification withint their first year of employment. Must have a valid driver's' license. Must have demonstrated experience monitoring and meeting PM schedules and operating repair shop equipment. Good written and oral communication skills. Must have excellent communication skills, bringing demonstrated abilities of building solid relationships with all levels. Some computer skills.

Experience Preferred

A CDL license is strongly preferred

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

Intermittent sitting, standing, stooping, crouching, walking, lifting of light and heavy objects. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 lbs. Required to sit, stand, walk use hands to finger, handle, feel, talk, hear, to reach with hands or arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and smell. Must be able to lay on back on a mechanic's dolly to work underneath motor vehicle equipment. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Associate must be free of any conditions which result in temporary loss of consciousness or ability to reason. Work is performed with exposure to noise, chemicals, noxious odors gases, poor ventilation, inclement weather, dirt, grease, dust and machinery with moving parts requiring use of protective devices.
