Summary

The Regional Environmental Manager is responsible for Southeast harvest operations compliance with all current and future Federal, State, and local environmental regulatory requirements.  This position will insure compliance with permit conditions to include the renewal of all permits. Environmental areas of concern are air, storm water, waste water, recycling, hazardous waste, solid waste, bio-solid land application, and chemical compliance at all facility’s supported.  The protection of the environment by positive actions of Company associates will greatly enhance our Company’s public image and reduce Company liability in the environmental arena. The environmental complexity and resultant liabilities for the areas of responsibility of this associate may include, but are not limited to:  an NPDES permit for Waste Water, a major air emissions facility, and size and complexity of all waste water operations combined. Other extenuating circumstances will be considered when appropriate.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Ensures compliance with: Waste water operation, air quality compliance, bio solids program, hazardous waste, recycling, solid waste, potable water and oil handling programs for the designated plant operations.


2. May supervise and manage (either direct or dotted-line) plant environment/waste water departments including hiring, training and developing supervision to ensure production operations are not compromised, environmental regulation, and carbon foot print reduction goals are met and all cost objectives associated with Perdue’s environmental operations are achieved.


3. Provides timely, accurate and consistent reports to all internal and external customers, governmental agencies where appropriate.  These may include safety, production, human resources, administrative and the regulatory community.  Will represent the SE operations (when needed) internally within the Corporation or with Federal, State or communities interests associated with each SE operations.  The incumbent will ensure positive, public relations are maintained with the federal, state and local compliance groups and work cooperatively when any inquiries are receives.


4. Will regularly inspect SE environmental operations and report their level compliance and condition to local and Corporate management to ensure assets are not allowed to be put at risk, protect the safety of all associates, preserve the environmental sustainability efforts by adhering to all company policies and compliance guidelines.


5. Provides training and consultative support to the VP Operations GM, SE Operations, Directors of Operations, and facility environmental or waste water management team on all matters pertaining to environmental sustainability, or compliance associated with your area of responsibility.


6. Controls cost and assets to manage within established goals. Proposes and manages capital projects associated with facility environmental and waste treatment compliance.


7. Provides notification of activities, spill releases and non-compliance in a timely manner. Conducts up to two (2) environmental audits at each further processing facility per year. 

Minimum Education

Bachelors degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or Biological Science plus 8 years related work experience.  Must possess strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively communicate in other verbal and written form.  Waste water license to the degree required to operate the largest waste water treatment facility within the complex.  Must meet requirement of the Company safety handbook.  Must have knowledge of federal, state and local environmental regulations. Requires travel to remote facilities and/or offices for meetings.

This individual should live within and be able to travel to the following geographic areas. (Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentucky or Indiana)

MS degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Health, Environmental Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or a natural science is preferred.
