Summary

This position is responsible for the management of all accounting processes related to broiler live operations, including the oversite of assets and the accurate reporting and analysis of related costs for all hatchery, feed mill and broiler growout operations.  This position is the lead accounting position for these facilities and serves as the business partner to the Vice Presidents of Operations.  The position provides support across the company for the MTech system pertaining to flock valuation and cost flows.  This position will ensure the completion of the financial review audits for Broiler operations, supervise two Sr. Cost Accountants and the Broiler Accounting Manager, and will manage all aspects of the yearly operating plans.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Performs and reviews cost and analytical reporting for specified facilities and growing programs.
  2. Reviews and ensures accurate and detailed balance sheet account reconciliations prepared by staff along with the completion of supporting audit requirements
  3. Manage the live production broiler accounting staff at the corporate office and field operations.  This includes the hiring, training and development of the staff.  Ensure ample opportunity for career development with relevant training.  Directly supervises 3 salaried associates; indirectly supervises 1 salaried and 2 hourly associates.
  4. Manages all Broiler related accounting activities including annual capital and operating budgets, key initiative reporting, operations performance forecasts, capital project review and approval and Agristats analysis and review. 
  5. Provides support to the Vice Presidents of Operations and the facility management teams with analysis and reporting that provide accurate business decisions and will help the operations to reduce cost and maximize profitability.  Maintains relationship as the business partner to Live Operations.
  6. Provides accounting and analytical support to the Director of Live Accounting which support Corporate accounting initiatives.
  7. Provides system support across the company for the MTech system pertaining to flock valuation and cost flows. Assist in the development of SOP’s along with ensuring SOP’s are being followed.

Education and Experience Requirements

 Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, plus 8 – 10 years poultry accounting experience including supervision and department management.  In lieu of poultry accounting experience, public accounting or strong job costing experience is preferred.  High level knowledge of spreadsheet development is required.  Ability to learn specialized software quickly is necessary.  Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of associates, from clerk to SVP.  Strong analytical skills are essential.
