Summary
The Director of Middleware and Development is responsible for overseeing the design, development, and implementation of middleware and application enhancements that support the organization’s IT infrastructure and business applications. This role involves leading a team of middleware engineers and software developers, collaborating with various departments to ensure seamless integration of systems, and driving innovation to enhance system performance and reliability.
The salary range for this position is $165,000 - $247,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications with annual bonus available (variable depending on performance).

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of middleware engineers and software developers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Develop and implement strategic plans for middleware architecture and integration.
- Ensure alignment of middleware strategies with overall IT and business goals.
- Oversee the design, development, and deployment of middleware solutions and software enhancements.
- Ensure middleware solutions are scalable, secure, and meet performance requirements.
- Experience with Sterling VAN and other various 3rd party VANS.
- Experience in middleware connectivity using SeeBurger Adapter.
- Experience working with external 3rd party EDI providers.
- Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve integration issues.
- iPaas integration experience i.e., MuleSoft, Boomi, Jitterbit, etc.
- Strong understanding of SAP ABAP, best practices, methodologies, and tools
- Experience in developing synchronous/asynchronous bridges in SAP BPT environment and knowledge with messaging architectures.
- Experience with the configuration of adapters such as IDOC adapter, File adapter, SOAP adapter, HTTP adapter, JDBC adapter, RFC adapter, Seeburger AS2 adapter, Cross Component Business Process Management (ccBPM), and Web Services.
- Experience with configuration of ABAP proxy settings, RFC destinations, IDOC communications set up, maintenance of ports and partner profiles.
- Experience with SAP S4 Hana environments both on-premise and cloud based.
- Collaborate with software development, network, and security teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of middleware components.
- Coordinate with project managers and stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends related to middleware.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in middleware solutions.
- Implement best practices and standards for middleware development and integration.
- Monitoring and optimizing the performance of integration solutions to meet business requirements.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, providing updates on middleware initiatives and performance.
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred), and 10+ years of experience in IT, with a focus on middleware technologies, integration and software development.
The ideal candidate will also have:
- Proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong understanding of middleware architecture, design patterns, and best practices.
- Experience with cloud middleware platforms such as SAP BPT, IBM WebSphere, Oracle Fusion Middleware, or similar.
- Experience with SAP development tools (ABAP, BTP, etc.)
- Excellent project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements
- The position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings
- May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another
- May need to access files, supplies and equipment
- When in a plant environment: Exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces
- May be exposed to temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity. May handle product 25 degrees to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. May be exposed to noise ranges of 50 db. to 110 db.
