Duties:

Oversee and manage all areas of Gestation and Breeding including the Electronic Sow Feeding system and all associated paperwork, records, and correspondence. Oversee and manage all aspects of the associated Gilt Isolation Unit. Ensure that all animals across the farms have received proper feed, water, ventilation, and bedding on a daily basis. Assist with all other aspects of the farm to ensure farm goals are met and tasks are completed on a daily basis. Complete ultrasounds at 28-day and 56-day post service, accurately recording and reporting. Ensure synchronization of gilts and sows to meet weekly breeding target. Responsible for accurate information in the NEDAP Electronic Sow Feeding system, including but not limited to: Location, Start Service Date, Feed Curves, BCS, Heat Check Recordings, etc.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine or related field of study and two (2) years of experience as a Herd Technician, Trainer Head of Department, Farrowing Head of Department or related role where required experience gained.

Special Skills: Also requires experience in the following:

  • Managing a team of 2-5 people;
  • Accurate and daily reporting of all breeding records, ultrasounds, and animal movement;
  • Treating sick animals on a timely as needed basis, recording, and managing withdraw periods;
  • Overseeing and managing integration of new animals into dynamic and static pens;
  • Assisting in Period Close inventory, cost analysis, and cost control; and
  • Managing the isolation unit (incoming/outgoing pig schedules, flow, people and resource management, health, etc.).
