Summary

The Manager of Research and Nutrition is responsible for planning, designing, overseeing, analyzing, and communicating poultry research in areas including, but not limited to, nutrition, breed selection, meat quality, welfare, and management to drive excellence in poultry live production.   Provide input and support to feed formulation and poultry nutrition. 

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, design and conduct poultry research trials that will drive operational excellence in live production.  Analyze, summarize, and communicate the results to all stakeholders. 
  • Promote associate safety, Poultry Care, biosecurity and environmental requirements at Company and Contract Research Facilities.
  • Provide oversight of company research farms to ensure continuous improvement of best practices and Standard Operating Procedures that will result in world-class poultry research.
  • Stay current in developments in poultry and animal science, poultry production within the industry and within the company to guide the development of research ideas.  
  • Support Feed formulation and Poultry Nutrition areas within Perdue Foods and Perdue Agribusiness. 

Minimum Education

Advance degree (PhD (preferred) in Poultry/Animal Science or related field. Excellent Verbal and Written Communication is required.    

Experience Requirements

2 years related work experience. Requires knowledge of the basics of poultry research including experimental design, data analysis, feed formulation, poultry nutrition and knowledge of poultry husbandry.

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

  1. Position is mostly sedentary but may require occasional moving to other offices or buildings.
  2. May need to move light equipment or supplies from one place to another.
  3. May need to access files, supplies and equipment.
  4. Work activity is mostly in an office, open-partitioned, cubicle environment.
  5. Travel required to other company locations, and industry meetings.
  6. The position requires routine visits to poultry houses, feed mills, hatcheries, and plant facilities. When in these environments:
    1. May be exposed to extreme temperatures of 28 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with both ambient and 100% humidity
    2. May be exposed to all chemicals and environmental conditions found in poultry houses. 
    3. Must wear and use protective/safety equipment required for the job as directed by the company.
